Back with the familiar
Didn’t move house and didn’t have to say goodbye to the studio after all. Quite a relief – so back to work after a few months hiatus.
I find myself back working with the wonderful world of paper. Sometimes I have felt I can’t squeeze any more out of it and then some slight shift of influence or idea opens up new possibilities. Saw Nathalie du Pasquier’s work at Pace Gallery and found that quite inspirational.
There are areas in which photography has more restriction than painting particularly regarding notions of unreality and physical compositional limitations but I find overcoming these restrictions the most exciting part of the work. My aim is not to arrive at a pastiche of painting but to refer to it whilst presenting something that is recognisably photographic. In a sense I am attempting to create a photographic representation of an extruded painting.
